Introduction
*Please note that this Companion Book is meant for people who have already read the Divergent series by Veronica Roth.
Divergent by Veronica Roth begins with the sixteen year old protagonist, Beatrice Prior (also known as Tris), who is about to make the difficult choice of choosing her faction. Your faction determines a lot of things for you. Your faction determines your profession, your customs, your clothes, your home, your diet... After you make this choice, there is no going back.
To help you make this important choice, you take a test to figure out where you mentally belong. The test usually works, but a rare thing happens to Beatrice. Her test results find that she fits into three, of the five factions. This makes her question where she really belongs throughout the whole series.
Beatrice decides to choose the faction Dauntless. Now, she must make it through the already brutal Dauntless initiation, with the challenges that come with being a Divergent.
While all of this is happening, tensions between the Abnegation and the Erudite are rising. This leads to the Erudite tricking the Dauntless into becoming their soldiers, for an attack against the Abnegation.
In this companion book, you will read about a variety of things. There are three analytical writing pieces and two fun supplemental pieces. My analytical pieces are about the major conflicts in this book, analyzing the setting and my final thoughts on Divergent. I also have two supplemental “fun” pieces. They are about the faction customs and a fan fiction story about Four’s made-up sister.
This book will show you more of the in-depth things that Veronica Roth purposefully put into this book.
