Divergent is one of those books that really changes your life. After you read it, you can’t stop thinking about it for days. It brings on so many new ideas, like a way of running society. This book talks about the idea of dividing society into factions. The factions are very different from each other. Each faction has a contrasting way of life. This is shown by their diverse beliefs, customs values, clothes, homes, diets… Such diversity affects the way that the factions socialize with each other. Different beliefs can clash, making socializing tense. Some factions aren't very tactful when talking with people from other factions. They can offend them by socializing without manners or caring about the impact they have on others. Clashing beliefs affect more than just socializing. Beliefs alter peoples’ opinions about many things. Due to their very different beliefs, the Erudite attacked the Abnegation which is the basis for this entire book’s conflict.
Overall, this book makes you really think about things like your customs and beliefs. It makes you wonder which faction you would belong in. It makes you think about what your life would be like in the Divergent world, and how it would be different than anything you have ever experienced. We live in a world where we feel free to be who we are and choose our own path. In a Divergent world, no one feels free because they must become part of a particular faction. That means they have one trait and one goal to fulfill. SPOILER ALERT! What would it be like if the people could actually make a choice? To find out, read the rest of the series and you’ll find out in Allegiant.
I hope that you enjoyed reading about my perspective on Divergent.
